ECU wins NCBBA National Championship over Kentucky
DeAngelo Hopkins‘s 25 points propelled the Pirates to an 87-74 victory over Kentucky on Sunday.
The Pirates connected from the field early, claiming a 36-34 lead at the half.
Hopkins found success all over the court for the Pirates, making 59% (10-for-17) of shots attempted while also sinking 83% (5-for-6) of free throws attempted.
Tyler Nicholson went into double digits, scoring 21 points for the Pirates (8-for-17). Joe Bryant (8 points) and Jeremy Brown-Parker (8) each sunk multiple three-pointers. Also chipping in for the Pirates were Antione Simon (9 points, 1 rebound), Wayne McDonald (9 points, 7 rebounds) and Torez Fisher (7 points, 3 rebounds).
The Pirates finished the game with 37 rebounds (10 offensive/27 defensive).
The ECU Pirates narrowly slips by the RMU Colonials
The Pirates emerged victorious 115-110 against the Robert Morris on Saturday on the strength of Joe Bryant, who scored 37 points.
The Pirates put points on the board early, claiming a 57-45 lead at the half.
Bryant shot well from the field, making 68% (13-for-19) of shots attempted as well as 56% (5-for-9) of threes attempted. He also was successful from the line, making 100% (6-for-6) of free throws attempted.
Four other players also scored in the double digits for the Pirates. Tyler Nicholson contributed 22 points, DeAngelo Hopkins racked up 21 points and Wayne McDonald added 10 points. Jeremy Brown-Parker hit two three-pointers and scored 11 points total. Also contributing for the Pirates were Torez Fisher (9 points, 1 rebound) and Antione Simon (3 points, 6 rebounds). Nicholson was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up nine rebounds.
The Pirates finished the game with 50 rebounds (15 offensive/35 defensive).
Cyclones fall to the Wildcats
The Cyclones fell to Kentucky on Saturday, 76-72, even with Jared Huhndorf scoring 16 points.
Putting up 12 points in the first half, Huhndorf wasted no time putting points on the board for the Cyclones.
Brady Lamb notched two three-pointers and scored 10 points total. Four other players also scored in the double digits for the Cyclones. Steve Neylon added 12 points, Cameron Mehls scored 10 points and Marlon Davis-Cunningham contributed 10 points. Also chipping in for the Cyclones were Markus Flynn (9 points, 4 rebounds) and Jonny Castro (5 points, 3 rebounds).
The Cyclones finished the game with 43 rebounds (16 offensive/27 defensive).
